The content of the show...

Bugged is about anarchy and absurdism, themes that reflect the confusion that many people feel when confronted with the modern world. A show with high energy and a fast pace, Bugged is designed to provide a sense of catharsis and escapism through the explosion and mocking of everyday problems. Rather than taking these problems literally, Bugged takes them to absurd proportions: the foul, crumb-encrusted futon that you used to own becomes a carnivorous beast in need of regular feeding; of course it wasn't your house-mates who stole your sausages, it was little green men from Mars.

Each episode will open with a brief introduction by that episode's 'special guest'. This guest will then be central to the problem that confronts the housemates during the episode. The main cast member, who tackles the problem will be Karl - the audience's confused, put-upon and bullied surrogate.

The main cast of Karl's  life are his housemates, who hinder as much as help him, as he struggles through days filled with singing Elvises, Evil Weevil's and insane professors who live in his basement.

At the end of each show, although problems are concluded, just like in real life, the conclusion is not always what Karl would hope for. So, while the audience laughs at Karl, they can also commiserate and identify with him, providing the show with something deeper than a few cheap laughs. Well, in addition to a few cheap laughs at least.

The context of the show...

Each episode of Bugged will be 11 minutes long and aimed at an 18-35 year old audience, though we expect the show to appeal to younger viewers as well.  Bugged would suit both 2D or 3D animation.  The draft backgrounds are, in part, inspired by the show 'Jackie Chan Adventures', with a slight overlap between the lineart and the colours; this adds to the show's disjointed, chaotic feel, with the world being at slight odds with Karl.  Meanwhile the draft character designs are clean and traditional,  to help ground the audience.

The music in Bugged plays an important role in setting the tone for the piece.  Although the mix is eclectic it generally leans towards jazz and electronica.  In addition to these original compositions, Bugged also features several up-and-coming bands from around the UK, (see the musical credits), giving the show a hip, youthful tone. In addition to this background role, the music will also occasionally step to the fore as an important comedic element.
